All Size Rabbit Cages - Natura Cages

When you are about to bring home your own new bunny and bunny home, you need to know a few things. You need to know what types of cages are available so you can choose the right home for your new bunny. There are various cages available, however they all need cleaning so your bunny stays happy and healthy.

You will need to consider the size of your new cage. Generally, the bigger the cage the better it is for the bunny. When you have a smaller breed of rabbit, you need a cage that is about 24 x 36 inches. When you have a larger breed of rabbit, one that weights 8 pounds or more, you need a cage that is about 30 x 36 inches. However, when you need more space, consider getting a two-story cage.

Cage design is essential. Since you can train just about any rabbit for the litter pan, a solid floor is possible to use. Keep in mind that wire floors do cause chafing to the feet and hock of your rabbit, making them tender and sore. If a wire cage is your only option, you should place a piece of flat wood or a grass mat inside the cage to protect your bunny.

More things to consider about Rabbit Cages

The size of the door should be large enough for you to get the rabbit out easily. It should also give you easy access to the litter pan and the litter pan should lift out entirely. A side door will let you get larger rabbits out easier, though for speed, a cage that opens at the side and along the bottom might be ideal. Make sure that the edges of the door are smooth and without raw wire.

There are various options available to bed down you bunny. When you want a cozy area, sisal mats are wonderful. You can keep your bunny extra cozy and warm by adding towels, carpets, and scraps of fabric or a fleece blanket. Never use evergreens, such as pine and cedar shavings, since the aromatic oils of the wood is not good for the lungs and liver of a rabbit. It is healthier to use hay and straw.

When you want to make sure that your rabbit stays healthy, remember that regular cage cleaning is a necessity. Start by removing any cloth or loose bedding, and then take out the food bowl and the water bottle. You can then spray the cage with a mixture of hot water and vinegar, which will not be harsh on your rabbit when you put it back in. Pay special attention to the area where the litter box is.

When the hutch is completely dry, line it with several layers of newspapers, while adding a few extra layers in the litter tray area. You can add kitty litter to achieve extra absorbency. Some rabbits may make a mess with it, yet others do quite well. You can observe your rabbit to see how well your rabbit reacts to the litter.

Now it is time to put in the bedding material, whether you use straw, shredded newspaper or scraps of fabric. Some people use shredded newspaper in the open area and straw in the enclosed shelter area. After this is done, all you need to do is to refill the water bottle and the food dish and to put them back in.

This is really all you need to do to choose a great rabbit cage and keep it clean, so look for a home that will make your bunny very happy!
